So why that name? The thing is: coming up with a good name for a website is difficult. Especially for a generic website without a specific topic. I could use my own name as domain name, but that would just be tacky in the same way that vanity plates on a car with your own name on it would be tacky. Going with a quirky name is the way to go then, but those names are virtually all taken.
Oni Kudaki or 鬼砕き is a term I first encountered as a martial arts technique. It’s old Japanese, and can be read a number of different ways. Demonic destruction, The destroying demon, Destroying the demon, and possibly a number of other permutations. It’s also a wink to my love for the DOOM game franchise. I don’t play a whole lot of different games, but I have been an avid DOOM player since the original version, and I am to this day. And since the point of the game is literally to kill the legions of hell, one gruesome death at a time, I thought it was a good name.
I went with a .be top level domain, and there, the options are much better. But if the .com version of that domain already exist, you need to be careful that you don’t get into legal trouble. The .com and .net versions of this domain name are taken, but given that they have been defunct for years, and there is no company behind them.
Now that I am starting up this website again, I wondered if I should take something else. I am no longer the person I was many years ago. But after too much thinking about it, I decided I would still face the same problem. So without any obviously better options, I decided to just go with what I had, and don’t overthink it.
